There is no downside to getting a cat as long as you look after it, make sure you fed it, it has plenty of water to drink, you keep it healthy by getting its shots and netured and you love it. If your mum says yes then why not adopt a cat from a local animal shelter.

The down would be : They are natural carnivores. All cats will eventually find them selves outside. Cats may become curios of corse, and curiosty killed the cat

But otherwise cats make magnificent pets!

Cats are very destructive animals, I love cats, but they are destructive.
The litter box! You have to celan AT LEAST once a day, or it gets nasty and smelly andyour house house will smell. They shed a lot too.

That said, I have a cat that I have had since she was 6 weeks old and is now about 16 YEARS old. I love her dearly, she has been a good and faithful friend, and good company. Pets are wonderful companions.
They are stinky and get hair all over. Let's not talk about hurling up hairballs. If they are not de-clawed they'll rip every piece of furniture you own. Good luck.
